The wall made of stone removed from the city wall of Taipei City, under the dim light, thinks about the characters and trucks that passed through the wall 100 years ago, and is more romantic in the antique community.

After living in Taipei for 30 years, I only learned today that the ruins of the ancient city walls of Taipei City are here. Quiet paths and ancient stone walls whisper down the once prosperous era!

Don’t say I don’t know, but there is no special notice to describe the reason. Quietly hiding in the alley and disappearing in the current construction industry, the stone used will definitely disappear without protection...

During the Japanese occupation period, the Taipei City Wall was demolished. At that time, the stones removed were said to have more than 300,000 pieces. They were used for other purposes. Some of them were made of prison walls and underground drainage channels. Stone walls were used in the South Gate Park of the Taibo Museum. Built a building called the Little White House

The wall near Ningxia Road and the New Culture Foundation is a brand new stone. Only behind the police station is the real Taipei City Wall. It was a wall stone demolished after the Japanese entered Taipei City in 1895. Ten years ago Restacked here and simulated the appearance of battlements!

Although this is not the location of the original ancient city wall, it is a wall that was removed and moved for reuse. Those who are interested in historical sites can turn in and take a look if they pass by. The location of the original Taipei city wall is a rectangular city wall that is about 1.4KM from north to south and 1KM from east to west, which is enclosed by Zhongxiao West Road/Zhongshan South Road/Aiguo West Road/Zhonghua Road. All the original five gates were demolished in order to re-plan the city during the Japanese Occupation. After being strongly opposed by the people, the other four existing gates (towers) were retained. The demolished stones were also used in many places, and the biggest place should be the wall of the Taipei Criminal Affairs Office at that time. According to reports, these stones used to build the walls of Taipei City during the Qing Dynasty were mined from Neihu. But the other thing is that when the ancestors crossed the sea from the mainland to Taiwan, they used to deal with the harsh waves of the Taiwan Strait and stabilize the ships and used them as ferry ballast stones. After they came to Taiwan, they were collected and used as stones for wall repair. Therefore, the stone part may be a historical evidence from crossing the river, it is very precious! (At that time, the ships were used by trade and people to come to Taiwan to open up wasteland, but when they returned, they changed to use Taiwanese products as heavy ballasts to stabilize the ships. And the "Taiwan Strait" was in the ancestors, In Hokkien, it is also known as the "Black Water Ditch". As far as the ships at that time are concerned, the dangers can be imagined.) In addition, behind the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, at Lane 44, Section 2, Jinshan South Road (near the Yongkang block near MRT Dongmen Station, across the other side of Jinshan South Road), the old Taipei City Wall was demolished and rebuilt. The walls of Taipei Prison are even larger. There used to be some old military villages next to the wall. Due to lack of proper protection, they were too old to be repaired for a long time and were finally demolished. Now they are turned into a green area. In fact, if the ancient city of Taipei stone + military villages are properly preserved, I personally think that it can be a valuable tourism resource. Look at these ancient city walls, you can remember the history of the creation of Taipei back then, and it is also one of the spiritual journeys! Go south along Jinshan South Road, the second intersection is Jinhua Street. Turn right on Jinhua Street (facing west), there is a whole row of Japanese-style buildings (the old military village as mentioned above), which was originally very dilapidated. This will become another attraction with characteristic Japanese style. These Japanese-style buildings were the staff dormitories of the criminal affairs office (prison) during the Japanese rule. After the government moved to Taiwan, they became government staff dormitories or military villages. At the back of this row of Japanese-style buildings, there is a big banyan tree, and there is a building next to it. Behind it, there is also a row of the southern wall of the Taipei Criminal Affairs Office. The same wall was built after the Taipei City Wall was demolished during the Japanese Occupation. You can visit it when you have time. The picture shows the north wall of the old Taipei Prison (Taipei City Wall Stone). The military village area has been turned into a small park with green space.
