cheap N various kinds

Always good place to shop around

Went there several times over the course of the last two years. During my latest Saturday afternoon visit in April 2022, there were a plethora of vendors selling various types of goods even though 10% of the stalls were empty. Based on my own impression, it appeared at least sixty percent of the occupied stalls were selling jade or derivatives. This is a "Buyer Beware" type of market place given the nature of the jade trade. Unlike diamond where the industry established a set of criteria evaluating the quality of any given piece of stone and a high price diamond usually comes with a certificate issued by GIA, there is no official jade certificate per se and the criteria for evaluating a piece of jade is quite subjective even though there exist alleged experts who claim to issue jade certificates. Therefore, it is up to the buyer of a piece of jade to ascertain its quality. My three star rating is based on the choices available and not based on the quality nor price. It is a generous rating to be sure. While I am no expert in jade, I have amassed a small collection of jade artifacts. Based on my inquiries of merchandise in twenty plus stalls, the asking price was definitely much higher than what the pieces warrant. The asking prices of the jade bracelets in many stalls are in the mid six figures. Even the price of non jade merchandises was higher than what I had seen elsewhere. If I were to rate this market based solely on the attitude of the merchants, this place only deserves a two star rating as more than half of the merchants I spoke to were indifferent, snobbish, rude, or a combination of the above. So while browsing may or may not be entertaining, buy at your own risk.
