Clean and quiet place for budget Japanese food near NTU

Went back again on a Tuesday in March 2022. The place had been remodeled since my last visit. While there appears to be more seatings as compared to the previous arrangement, all windows were sealed off which makes the place very dark and cave like. I am no cave dwellers and did not enjoy being inside this place. There is a sign at the entrance announcing a price increase effective Feb 1st. As it is near the end of March during my visit, this is an outdated sign that had not been removed by restaurant management. Unfortunately, there was no commensurate increase in food quality. In fact, the food did not taste as good as what I remember and rated this place highly for. I have no choice but to reduce my rating to three stars. **************************************** Went back on a Saturday in February 2021. Our party of 2 ordered a super combination sashimi, grilled eels without sauce and in soy sauce, respectively, as well as grilled meat. The eels were even better than the ones served the other day as the sauce was not as intense, which allows the natural flavor to come through, and more moist. This experience led me to theorize that perhaps the chef serving on weekdays was different from the one serving on weekends. Even the grilled meat seemed to be better. The sashimis were about the same as the ones served that other day. This latest experience upheld my previous high rating. **************************************** I am giving this place four stars for the consistency in food quality and the dining environment. A friend and I went there for lunch on Monday in early February 2021. We arrived around opening time and we were the second table seated. By 12:30pm, the place was roughly 80% full. Our party ordered a variety of food including the signature eel, sashimi, various grilled meat, squid, cod liver salad, as well as stirred fried vegetables. With the exception of the stirred fried vegetables, all other dishes were above average as compared to other Taipei Japanese restaurants that I had partaked in. A bonus is the pretty decent ice cream at no additional charge. This is a place that I would make plan to revisit in the future. This is a ringing endorsement coming from me.
