There were five academies in Taipei in the Qing Dynasty. Xuehai Academy is the only one in existence today. The old name of the academy was "Wenjia Academy". It was sold here during the Japanese occupation, and people from the Gao family bought it as an ancestral hall. In 1985, it was designated as the third level monument.

"Xuehai Academy" is one of the five academies in the Taipei Basin of the Qing Dynasty. It is currently the only remaining academy building in Taipei. The other four are Mingzhi Academy, Shuren College, Dengyu Academy and Mingdao College. It was completed in the 23rd year of Daoguang (AD 1843) by his successor, Tongzhi Cao. This academy is the highest school in the Qing Dynasty in the Qing Dynasty. It was set up in the 6th year of Tongzhi (AD 1867) and the 5th year of Guangxu (AD 1879).
