Epic mission journey The gunpowder depot in Fuzhou caught fire and all sulfur and saltpeter were burned. The Qing government ordered the Fujian authorities to make up for it. Taiwan is a land of miasma and no one dared to go. 51-year-old Yu Yonghe voluntarily asked to go to Beitou, Taiwan to mine sulfur. In 1697, the sea trip arrived in Anping, Tainan, purchased all sulfur mining tools, and then took an ox cart to reach Danshui by land. On the way, "from the bamboo moat to the south ridge, there is no one person and one house." The Taipei Basin is still a lake (Kangxi Taipei Lake). ). During the period of sulfur mining in Beitou, it was often invaded by aboriginal people. After ten labors and nine sicknesses, it was hit by a typhoon and the home was completely wiped out. In the end, the mission was fulfilled by perseverance. The Yuyonghe sulfur mining site is now Beitou Longfeng Valley and Sulfur Valley, and there is a "Yuyonghe sulfur mining monument".

Yu Yonghe, who took the initiative to come to Taiwan to collect sulfur after the gunpowder depot in Fuzhou (Rongcheng) caught fire, traveled all the way north from Tainan, leaving precious aboriginal (Pingpu) records for Taiwan, as well as records of Kangxi Taipei Lake. While Yu Yonghe himself was traveling from Tainan to the north, in addition to carefully observing and memorizing the journey, his body was also considered strong. During his stay in Beitou to boil sulfur, many of the people he employed suffered from acclimatization, miasma and severe diseases. After experiencing the typhoon and floods and other hardships, he survived one by one and finally completed the task. Only then can he leave the book "Bihai Jiyou" and leave first-hand information on the customs and customs of western Taiwan in the early days.
