一位曾在知名米廠任職的朋友說，買米要買散米，就是在雜糧行用稱的這種最新鮮，因爲整大包幾乎都會賣完，不會有過期的問題。在大賣場的小包米，到期前沒賣完的工廠會去各大賣場回收，集中後再進廠，經過加工ㄧ下，又是新的拿出來賣，尤其促銷最好不要買，所以我都是在雜糧行買米，快吃完了再來買！至於買甚麼樣的米，各有所好，我們比較喜歡吃花東米！
