★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 1872年12月26日，馬偕博士巡迴佈道經八里，認為有在此傳福音之必要。翌年元月再度前來佈道，於八里田心仔老榕樹下展開佈道傳福音事工，雨天則借用民房，如此傳福音談論信仰一段時日。當時感於民眾常有找不著聚會地點之不便，馬偕博士乃毅然於八里訊塘埔小段11地號處買下面積約六百坪之土地，一草屋作禮拜堂。於1874年3月22日舉行獻堂禮拜，並常有神學生受派駐堂推展宣教事工。
On December 26, 1872, Dr. Ma Yi toured the missionary eight miles and thought it necessary to preach the gospel here. In January of the following year, he came to preach again, and began evangelism under the old banyan tree in Xinzi, Balitian. On rainy days, he borrowed a private house, so he preached the gospel and talked about faith for a while. At that time, people felt inconvenient that they could not find the meeting place. Dr. Ma Yi resolutely bought an area of about 600 pings at the 11th section of the Tangpu section of Balixun, and thatched cottage was used as a chapel. A worship service was held on March 22, 1874, and theological students were often stationed in the church to promote missionary work.
