The Maochang terraced landscape is located in Hengshan Village, Sanzhi Township, Taipei County. The Hengshan terraces in the middle reaches of Dakeng River are Sanzhi’s most famous terraced landscape and the habitat of Taipei red frogs. Because the terrain of the whole township is mostly hillside, early farmers built many terraces in Hengshan Village, Maochang Village, Yuanshan Village and other areas. Shankan is a hilly belt with obvious height differences. In the early days, Sanzhi was backed by mountains and faced the sea and the plains were not wide. In order to gain a larger farming area, the ancestors followed the terrain and opened up terraced fields. The terraced fields winding along the mountain form a landscape of terraced fields one after another, coupled with the interlacing of highways and rivers, creating a beautiful geometrical landscape. The original Hengshan terraces were mainly for planting crops, but now they are turning to the tourism industry to provide tourists with a special landscape for recreation. There are many Taipei red frogs inhabiting on the opposite side of Hengshan Elementary School. As human pollution is getting worse, frog lovers are actively taking care of them. Only now can they observe the traces of Taipei red frogs on the Hengshan terraces.

The terraces where the white bamboo shoots are planted are now full of miscanthus. It is beautifully swaying in the wind. You can also walk here when you come to Sanzhi~
