MemoryLane Yilan on Google

Hello! We are "Yilan Memory Lane" project team. (designed as the graduation project by 3 international students from ITM class 2018, TKU) We created an original walking route with scenic spots along Yilan's mountain side. Since 蜊埤湖 is one of the locations on our route, we would like to share the English information about the place with international travelers! ●General Information This place might be a little bit difficult to find, but once you arrive, the calmness of this unique lake will leave a lasting impression on your mood. The peacefulness of Lipi Lake travels with us even after leaving the place, proving that the magic of nature can both haunt and heal us. ●The Lake’s Origin While traveling towards Taiping Mountain (太平⼭) from Yilan, one might pass by Yuanshan Township’s public cemetery (員⼭福園), where an otherworldly lake rests in the arms of the hilly, green mountains. Shaped like an opened clam, its Chinese name refers to its appearance in a literal way, with "Li" (clam) lake being its official name. This shape is the result of the confluence of small rivers originating from the Snow Mountain Range (雪⼭⼭脈) gradually forming into a lake, achieving perfection as nature keeps crafting its gems. Even though this place might not be the most famous or well-visited destination in Yilan due to being so close to a cemetery, it is still beloved by locals and travel enthusiasts who typically get to know about this scenic spot on social media. ●Location of Lipi Lake One of the mountain’s ridges is shaped like a set of teeth with a single missing tooth in the middle, which could have belonged to a person whose mouth was agape due to the jaw-dropping beauty of the lake. Perhaps, the tooth fell into the water and turned into a headstone, burying the soul of the person who died in awe. This is a legend that doesn’t actually exist but the mountain is, indeed, one of the unique attributes of the Lipi Lake area. The closer you move to the mountain that misses a tooth, the nearer you are to the lake that is impossible to see from a distance. If you have never visited this area before, the size of the lake might take you by surprise. You might wonder how such invigorating beauty could exist next to a graveyard, behind a pig farm, hidden at the end of spontaneous twists and turns of rural roads belonging to acres of farmland. ●Facilities There are many facilities at Lipi Lake, making this place a great resting station for every tired traveler. A big parking lot is available at this location which is open at all times of the year. Wooden benches, chairs made of rocks, a stone bridge, and wide podium-style stairs are some of the places that could serve as a backdrop to a beautiful photo. Opposite the lake’s entrance, there is a public restroom that you can use for free. The restroom is located next to a convenience store stocking snacks and basic items that you might need. Since there are few convenience stores along the mountains past this scenic spot, you should buy everything you need here. ●Our Thoughts & Advice It takes patience and lots of planning to finalize a European travel plan, however, Lipi Lake, by comparison, is far easier to reach for everyone residing in Taiwan. It is during times of worldwide travel restrictions that locals and tourists alike begin to see their home country from a fresh perspective and with a newfound sense of gratitude. Perhaps, Lipi Lake will become a more popular tourist destination in the future, although it remains one of Yilan’s many hidden gems for now. There is no time more perfect than today to appreciate this rejuvenating masterpiece crafted by the painting hands of mother nature. ●Pro Tip: Bring a picnic mat to sit on the meadow, some insect repellent, and a parasol to shield yourself from the sun, if you come here during summer.
