In the 11th year of Xianfeng (CE 1861), the Pan family came to Taiwan, the third generation Pan Qinghan and Pan Chenghan brothers built together
Later, a western-style building with a mixture of Baroque and Oriental styles was built along Xinpu Street. There is a garden behind the western-style building. After the garden, there is a large group room with one entrance, four horizontal houses and double exterior walls. It is a national third-class historic site.
Panwudi lives in the Crab Den, surrounded by mountains and rivers, with a green area in front of it, with picturesque scenery. The solid frame structure, rigorous spatial organization and strict defense system are the unique characteristics of this mansion.
The ancestral shrine renovation project of Xinpu Ancestral Hall and Museum-the restoration project of Xinpu Panwu, a historic site in the county, was approved by the Ministry of Culture with an approved funding of RMB 50,426,400. In the future, the historical relics will be revitalized and built in connection with the three streets, six lanes and nine ancestral temples, combined with the humanities industry, to brighten Xinpu.
Xinpu Panwu was declared a county monument in 1949 and was created by Pan Shuxian in CE 1786. The existing building was rebuilt on the original foundation by his grandson Pan Qinghan and Pan Chenghan in CE 1815 to form a four-horizon double courtyard wall. It was built at the "Crab Cave" in Fengshui Ji Cave, with the Xishan Cave in front of it, which is an important place for ordinary people to live. The early merchants gathered in Xinpu, Hsinchu County, and they flourished for a while. Large families built deep houses and courtyards, which contained important human values. The Qing Dynasty canonized 2 generations of filial sons (heirs of filial piety) and Hakka poet literati Du Panfang, who was born in Panwu.
There are many ancestral temples and family temples in these old houses. Xinpu Panwu is a "house-like building" in the Xinpu Street Ancestral Hall complex. It is one of the most important buildings in the Xinpu settlement. The construction methods and painted stucco tiles inside are of great artistic value. Become a representative case of Hakka construction technology.
With the cooperation of the descendants of the Pan family and the county government, they jointly sought funding for the construction hardware restoration project from the Ministry of Culture. Pan Pengren, the convener of the restoration project and the chairman of Yimin Middle School, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Culture for the subsidies and the family’s full support and cooperation. Cultural assets need to be protected and cherished by everyone. I am happy to see the cooperation between the private and the government. It will be revitalized and reused in accordance with professional restoration methods and the opinions of all parties, and will be toward independent operation.
The planned period of the Xinpu Panwu Restoration Project is 20 months, and it is scheduled to start from July 1987 to February 109. On January 16, 110, the ribbon-cutting completion ceremony was held after the wonderful performances of the Lion Dance Team of Fangliao Elementary School and the Tianwu Beiguan Music Group.
Xinpu Panwu has undergone several changes and constructions over the past 200 years, so the roof is partly red and partly black. In this restoration, the roof is unified into black tiles, which conforms to the original appearance of the historical site. At the same time, the floor, foundation, wall, roof truss and roof tiles are inspected and restored, and the painted stucco tiles with great artistic value in the building are also specially preserved. During the construction process, it was accidentally discovered that 13 shooting muzzles were hidden in the plaster walls, including the left and right sides of the door, and under the windowsills. There were muzzles for shooting to the outside, and the window frames on the outer wall could also be used as shooting positions, just like the interior of the building. The fire network protects the safety of personnel and property. A considerable degree reflects the defensive needs of the social environment at that time, and it is also the best testimony of the ancestors who guarded their homes with their hands and feet.
Cultural assets need public and private cooperation to protect and cherish. The Cultural Affairs Bureau is taking the Xinpu Ancestral Hall complex as its category, integrating cross-domain integration, systematic preservation and activation, and striving for the Ministry of Culture's forward-looking infrastructure construction-the historical site reconstruction project, hoping to reproduce Xinpu The cultural value and spirit of the clans who were not afraid of hardships and established their family business during the Tuoken period also allowed more people to understand the pride and glory of Xinpu.
At present, the "Xinpu Ancestral Hall Museum" has 8 historic sites and 3 historical buildings, a total of 11 sites. The Zhang Family Temple is undergoing restoration work. The Zhu Family Temple has completed the restoration and reuse design, and the rest have been restored and opened. The regional focus will be gradually transformed from hardware restoration of historical sites to cultural asset integration, education promotion and activation operations to highlight local characteristic culture and enrich the region.
The restoration project is based on the principle of maximizing retention. When the things that were attached to the wall (earth bricks) in the past are disassembled, after the restoration, layers of historical traces like time rings are also displayed in front of you. Inside the entire building, there are well-preserved "cat holes" everywhere, allowing cats to walk around and catch mice. What's more, they also discover secrets that may not even be known to children and grandchildren. In order to resist attacks from outsiders, there are 20 buildings. The multiple "gunholes" can not only be seen outside but also inside the courtyard. A tight protection network with both inside and outside can be described as "the strongest private fortress"! These discoveries fully demonstrate the wisdom of our ancestors and the society at that time. situation.
After the ancestors of the Pan family came to Taiwan from Meixian, Guangdong, CE purchased land and building materials here in 1815 and became the prototype of Panwu. The hinterland is about 800 square meters. Currently, it is actively preparing for the subsequent reuse operation plan. After the formal restoration is completed, it will be equipped with special personnel. The way of narration is to exhibit more meta content, such as the precious photos of the ancestors still keeping the Qing Dynasty braid hairstyle and the poems of Du Panfangge, the descendant of the Pan family.
Samples of the roof tiles will be exhibited at the site. In the future, we will return to the building materials used by the predecessors-black tiles as roof tiles, and the precious old photos of Pan House taken by Taiwan "photographer pioneer" Deng Nanguang in the past. Zhongru walked into the time tunnel and saw the past in miniature.

Built in 1861, it is located in the central area of the southern end of Xinpu City Street, and faces north to the south. Registered as a historic building in 1985. Unlike the Liu Family Temple next door, Pan Mansion looks like a low-key luxury mansion. The roof is all gold-shaped "horseback". Compared to "Horseback", the tail of "Swallowtail Ridge" on Feng Shui will hit the neighbors.
Especially because the opposite side of the house is the water outlet, the source of spring water is endless, and the house is home to crab holes. The owner deliberately made the roof color blue to be like a crab, but because there is no blue pigment building material, it is simply left blank. Cook will turn red, avoid taboo.
The jade pottery window mullions, coin patterns, and the decorative patterns on the daughter's wall symbolizing the Five Fortunes Gate.
The gate was locked and not open for visiting.
