The Yishitang was built in the 15th year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1835) to worship the souls of Cantonese who died in the fighting between Fujian and Guangdong.

The Wanshan Church, originally a sacrifice for the solitary soul, was established in 1835. It was rebuilt twice in 1933 and 1975, and was renamed Yishitang. There are no gods enshrined, only god cards, and there are large public statues of the land next to the temple.
