原為興建於1923年之大溪公會堂和館，1949年大溪公會堂轉為蔣公行館使用，並改建成現存的樣貌。當時蔣中正總統常來此休憩、接待外賓、召見晤談及與兒孫相聚等。周邊居民對此處的印象是戒備森嚴，但於總統壽誕的特殊日子，也留下與總統伉儷互動的記憶。
1975年蔣中正總統逝世，1976年元旦，洋館及行館皆改做「總統蔣公紀念堂」展示相關物件及起居空間。2016年交由木博館管理，2020年整修完成，以「木生活」為主題，做為木藝與多元產業連結及木生活體驗空間。
