初來乍到可能看來看去想不到,竹南是個有歷史有故事的小城,有點歷史的地方,好吃的傳統小吃就少不了。 閩南人居多的竹南,有個傳統虱目魚攤位也是合情合理的。早年這攤虱目魚湯位於竹南市場內,因市場改建而遷出,改到現在光復路現址,營業時間也從早上的早市時間改為都市適應夜間生活晚場。 早年虱目魚是補品,以補充蛋白質為訴求,為傷病患及孕婦提供營養,近年則轉為傳統美味為號召,「無刺虱目魚」的開發引進,更擴大了不喜魚刺的消費族群。 這間「虱目魚大王」知名的菜餚為滷魚頭,滷汁入味,喜歡啃魚頭的老饕均讚不絕口,每天限量五十顆,售完為止。虱目魚薑絲湯更是鮮美可口,推薦的菜色還有滷魚腸、豬肝等等,搭配道地的滷肉飯,絕對讓消費者回味無窮。 經營者是一對中年夫妻,從上一代接受,為竹南在地人煮了近三十年的美味虱目魚湯,許多當地民代致贈的匾額賀聯,佐證了這家老店的美味,唯一傷腦筋的是,本店廁所不提供外借,要來用餐前可要先處理好如廁的問題,才不致橫生誤解。
