Ms. Pan Sanmei, the preserver of traditional crafts in Miaoli County, led us to learn about the bamboo and rattan weaving crafts of Saixia. Before going to the teacher’s Penglai workshop, the teacher specially arranged a visit to the Penglai River Fish-Protecting Trail, leading us to understand the ethnic plants of the Saixia people, especially how the Saixia people use the plants in the natural environment to become life and rituals The various resources of craftsmanship reflect the local knowledge passed down from generation to generation and the ethical value of symbiosis with nature. During the walk, the teacher explained the characteristics and uses of each plant one by one, and taught us how to call them in Saixia language. The teacher said that the bamboo used in the bamboo and rattan weaving is planted by himself, and he personally cuts down, cuts and thins it, and uses as much as possible. From the teacher’s eyes, we can see the respect of the Saixia people for nature. Forest also protects this mountain forest.
