The "Former Dahu Sericulture Improvement Field Building Complex" is located at No. 42, Minzu Road, Dahu Township, within the agricultural improvement field in Miaoli District. At present, there are 1 Jamsil (Guesthouse), 3 Jamsil (Warehouse), 1 Double Dorm, and 2 Japanese-style wooden buildings. In the Dahu area, the "Fufan Agency" was established by Liu Mingchuan, the then governor of Taiwan, as early as the 12th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty (CE 1886). . In the 13th year of Guangxu (CE 1887), when Liang Chengnan of the Reclamation Bureau stayed in Dahu, he hired a sericulture master from his hometown of Guangdong to come to Taiwan for assistance, and rewarded folks for sericulture in Zhuolan Dapinglin, which was the beginning of sericulture in Dahu area. In the 42nd year of Meiji (CE 1909), the Japanese Tahara Chihiko visited the Great Lakes area and thought that it was very suitable for silkworm breeding, so he imported silkworm seeds from Japan for trial breeding. In the first year of Taisho (CE 1912), in view of the value of sericulture in the Great Lakes region, the Governor's Office of Taiwan specially dispatched sericulture technicians to the area to guide and reward mulberry cultivation and silkworm breeding, the construction of sericulture tools and the cultivation of technical talents. Training, the sericulture in the Great Lakes region is increasingly developed. Since the 4th year of the Showa era (CE 1929), the Kumamoto Prefecture Sericulture Experiment Field has come to the Great Lakes region to breed the original species. In the 6th year of the Showa era (CE 1931), the Silkworm Real Estate Group of Junma County sent staff to breed new varieties and transport them back to Japan, laying the foundation for silkworm seed production in the Great Lakes region. In the 8th year of the Showa era (CE 1933), the Hsinchu State Farmers Association called for the establishment of a civic organization for the sericulture industry in order to improve sericulture technology. In the 10th year of the Showa era (CE 1935), the Japanese National Silk Test Center set up a trial breeding center in Dahu to engage in silkworm breeding. After the war, it was renamed the Sericulture Improvement Farm and was affiliated to the Agriculture and Forestry Department of the Taiwan Chief Executive's Office. The silk test field Dahu Pilot Breeding Institute was changed to Dahu Guidance Institute. In the 37th year of the Republic of China (CE 1948), it was expanded into a branch, specializing in silkworm seed manufacturing, mulberry seedling reproduction, promotion and silkworm breeding guidance. In the 38th year of the Republic of China (CE 1949), the Department of Agriculture and Forestry and China Silkworm Co., Ltd. jointly established the Dahu Sericulture Promotion Experimental Zone, responsible for the promotion of sericulture in this area. After several years, a lot of progress has been made. At present, many existing buildings in the area are no longer used for trial breeding of silkworms, and some reconstructions have been carried out with the evolution of the times, but the proportion of original components is still quite high, and the whole area is well preserved.
