Introduction to the temple
Tracing back to the origin of Guangzhao Temple, we first mention Master Mingfang, the abbot of the founding of the "Guangming Temple" in Taichung City. Master Mingfang was born in a family of devout Buddhism. He was 16 years old and worshipped Master Well-meaning Master of Lingquan Temple in Keelung as his teacher. Later, he studied Buddhism at the "Nishi Hongan Temple" in Taipei City, and was sent to the Central Buddhist Institute, the Missionary School, and the Institute of Buddhism in Japan for 6 years. After returning to China, he was sent to the Guangzhao Temple in Chiayi and the Guangming Temple in Tainan. He was stationed in Xi'an and served as a "teacher" in a prison, fumigating the inmates with Dharma.
Temple history
After the end of the Second World War, all Japanese temples in Taiwan were unified and managed by the National Government. Master Ming Fang was appointed to send the Taichung "Zhongzun Temple" under the Xihongan Temple, and Zhongzun Temple was later changed to the current "Taichung Central District Office". ".
In the early days of Liberation, Master Ming Fang was invited by Cheng Songyun, chairman of the Taichung City Buddhist Association, to take up the post of secretary. In 1949, the "Guangming Temple" was established on Zhongshan Road, Taichung City. Because of the increasing number of believers, it moved from the Zhongshan Road site to Guangfu Road Dojo in 48 years. In 1965, relatives were working in Beitun District and sold a piece of gravel land that was less suitable for farming to expand the dojo in the future. And this former farmland has been re-planned and changed several times in the urban plan, and it has become the current site of the "Zhaoguang Temple" next to the road in Changping today.
Master Mingfang passed away in 1971. He succeeded Master Yixin as a faculty member. For 70 years, when "Nishihonganji Temple of Japan" provided further study opportunities, he resigned from his teaching position and studied at the Institute of "Ryukoku University, Kyoto, Japan" to study the principles of Buddhism. After studying and returning to China, he inherited the will of Master Mingfang and continued to devote himself to the promotion of "Pure Land Buddhism". For more than 20 years, Master Yixin has devoted himself to the mission of spreading Dharma and benefiting one's life, and has never stopped giving missionary work and social charity relief work.
In 1981, Master Yixin drew up a plan to build a new dojo. By 1988, the fate was mature, and construction began on June 15 of the same year. Soon after the 921 Jiji earthquake, the construction project was temporarily suspended. However, with the support of many believers and the support of the front gate owner and Motoyama of the "Nishi Honganji Temple", the "Japan Missionary Association", and the "Hasegawa Arts and Crafts Society of Japan", the project finally started smoothly. After 3 years, it was finally completed. On March 8, 1993, the celebration ceremony of "the completion of the Guangzhao Temple" and the "opening of the Xihongan Temple Taiwan Education Office" was held.
Temple pattern
The main body of the building is a structure of 1 floor underground and 5 floors above the ground. The exterior is made of beige, pink-orange hanging bricks with simple sensitive stone walls and blue-gray glazed tiles. The space equipment includes the main hall of the Buddha, the Patriarch Hall, the lecture hall, the library, the hut, the reception room, etc. Because Kokoji is a Buddhist temple belonging to the Shinshu-Honganji School of Japan, it also incorporates some Japanese styles in planning, design, and construction methods. The main hall resembles the palace-style Buddhist shrines of the Tang Dynasty, and enshrines the Amitabha Pure Land Shinshu Honganji Buddhism. It is magnificent and magnificent. It is the crystal of craftsmanship completed by the Hasegawa Art and Craft Society in Japan in one year, and also embodies the spirit of this solemn dojo.
