本所的成立可以溯至民國六十年臺灣省立教育學院創校之時即已設立的科學教育學 系,該系創設的宗旨在於提高中學數理科教師的水準,最初兩年係以實驗班方式招收專 科畢業的在職教師。其後實驗班停止招生,改為參加聯合招生,並逐年設立數學、物 理、生物、和化學四組,每組必修課程皆比照部頒師範院校類似科系的課程標準。由於 科學教育學系屬下的四組,每年皆各招生一班,其規模和功能實際上是相當於四個學 系,因此經報部核准後,各組於民國七十年獨立成系。為承續科學教育學系統合數學、 物理、化學、和生物等各系在推展科學教育工作和進行科學教育研究方面的功能,本校 各系熱心科學教育的同仁皆建議及早成立科學教育研究所,是以自民國七十年以後,本 校即積極致力於科學教育研究所碩士班的籌設,迭經數年的努力,終於獲准在民國七十 六年正式成立。之後,由於成立博士班的需求日益殷切,加以所內師資日愈整齊,乃於 民國八十二年申請成立博士班,並獲教育部通過。民國88年(1999年),本所因應師資培 育變革與終身學習之潮流,成立國高中職教師在職進修數理教學碩士班,以協助中等學 校科學∕數學教師透過行動研究改善其教學品質。104學年度起數理教學碩士班更名為 數理創意教學及科普推廣碩士在職專班,同年並成立數理創意教學馬來西亞境外碩士在 職專班。目前本所設有博士班、碩士班、數理創意教學及科普推廣碩士在職專班、數理 創意教學馬來西亞境外碩士在職專班,體制相當完備。
The establishment of the Institute dates back to the 60th year of the Republic of China when the Taiwan Provincial Institute of Education established the Department of Science and Education. The purpose of the Department was to improve the standard of high school mathematics and science teachers. Ways to recruit in-service teachers who graduated from college. After that, the experimental class stopped enrolling and joined joint admissions instead. Four groups of mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry were set up each year. The required courses of each group followed the curriculum standards of similar departments issued by the normal university. Since the four groups under the Department of Science and Education each enroll one class each year, the scale and function are actually equivalent to the four departments. Therefore, after approval by the Ministry of Education, each group became an independent department in the 70 years of the Republic of China. In order to continue the functions of the science education system and the departments of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology in promoting science education and conducting scientific education research, colleagues from all departments of the school who are enthusiastic about science education have proposed the early establishment of a science education research institute. Therefore, since 70 years after the Republic of China, our school has been actively committed to the preparation of the master class of the Institute of Science and Education. After years of hard work, it was finally approved to be officially established in 1976. Since then, due to the increasing demand for the establishment of doctoral programs, and the gradual neatness of the faculty in the institute, the application for the establishment of a doctoral program in 1992 was approved by the Ministry of Education. In the Republic of China (1999), in response to the trend of teacher education and lifelong learning, the Institute established a master's class in mathematics and physics teaching for senior high school vocational teachers to assist secondary school science and mathematics teachers to improve their teaching quality through action research. Since the 104 academic year, the Master's Degree Program in Mathematics and Physics has been renamed as a Master's Degree Program in Mathematics and Creativity Teaching and Popular Science Popularization. In the same year, a Master's Degree Program in Mathematics and Creativity Teaching outside Malaysia was established. Currently, the institute has doctoral, master's, math and creative teaching and popular science master's on-the-job classes, and math and creative teaching on-the-job master's classes outside Malaysia. The system is quite complete.
