他一生最愛蓮花。他把蓮花比成君子，夸它雖然從污泥里鑽出來，但一塵不染，雖然整天在清潔的水裡洗濯，但一點兒也不妖艷。它的香又清又遠，它的直不會發枝或拖秧，我愛它這君子的品質。
周敦頤愛蓮，周敦頤後裔堂號便取"愛蓮堂"。以此來紀念先人。
