Drive along the road to the end until you see the tunnel, about 10 cars can be parked, and it takes about 2 minutes to get there after passing the car block. It's spectacular, but it's nothing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 新武界隧道及栗栖溪引水工程，又稱為新武界引水隧道工程，是臺灣的一項水利工程，連接原有武界壩、新建之栗栖壩及日月潭，將武界壩上游濁水溪及其支流栗栖溪溪水以越域引水方式引入日月潭。主要功能是確保日月潭水源穩定，提高日月潭發電系統利用率及運轉可靠性[5]，總工程經費為新台幣90億元[4]。其中新武界引水隧道與栗栖溪引水隧道總長約 16.5 公里，是台灣最長的引水隧道[1]，長度超越蔣渭水高速公路雪山隧道與北迴鐵路新觀音隧道[註 1]。完工後日月潭每年可增加約8億立方公尺的進水量[3]，發電系統每年可增加 7,600 萬度（瓩時）水力發電量[1]。
The Xinwujie Tunnel and Liqi River Water Diversion Project, also known as the Xinwujie Water Diversion Tunnel Project, is a water conservancy project in Taiwan. Its tributary, Liqi Stream, is introduced into Sun Moon Lake by means of cross-regional water diversion. The main function is to ensure the stability of the water source of Sun Moon Lake, improve the utilization rate and operational reliability of the Sun Moon Lake power generation system [5], and the total project cost is NT$9 billion [4]. Among them, the Xinwujie Water Diversion Tunnel and the Liqixi Water Diversion Tunnel have a total length of about 16.5 kilometers, which are the longest water diversion tunnels in Taiwan [1]. After completion, Sun Moon Lake can increase the water inflow by about 800 million cubic meters per year [3], and the power generation system can increase the hydroelectric power generation by 76 million degrees (kwh) per year [1].

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awe-inspiring engineering marvel. I rode my bike deep into the mountains specifically to see this kind of mega-project and it does not disappoint. The scale of the structure is phenomenal and the entire trip leading up to it was a pleasant ride too. However, it is not at all touristy - if you are looking for educational exhibits, there aren't really any. Google Street view cuts off the bit that actually takes you into the site, and the signage outside might lead you to think that it's off-limits. But it's 100% accessible on foot and permitted for visitors as there are commemorative plaques and basic introductions on the walls.
