During the typhoon of Taozhi in 2001, the embankment of the Gulxi River in Dongpu was damaged by the earth and rock flow, which caused serious damage to the Miaoliao settlement. Afterwards, the 4th River Bureau of the Water Conservancy Department re-planned the 22-hectare base into the Muqiaoliao detention basin ecological zone and transformed it into a detention pond. Because of the good planning, it also won the Quality Award for Public Works from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In addition to the flood detention function, there are more than one fully paved trails planned here. If you look at it from the sky, you can see the shape of Taiwan and footprints, which is quite interesting. Overall, this is a very friendly green space.
