在林鐵運行年代，北門驛一帶設有林務行政、鐵路機場與調度、製材場，是林鐵的管理中樞。
當阿里山公路通車後，軌道運輸榮景不再，而今，鐵路與車站依舊，林業盛況，獨留緬懷與追思。
