My friend and I went Smart Fish on March 11th, 2022, around 12:30, the number on the electronic device was sixty-four, and our queue number was ninety. Although we needed to wait for twenty-six groups of people, we only waited about thirty minutes, so the table turnover rate is high. When we lined up, we ordered our meal, and we ordered pottery pot vegetables plus fish head, turkey rice, and braised pork on rice with a sunny-side-up egg. The pottery pot vegetables plus fish head and the braised pork on rice with a sunny-side-up egg were amazing, but the turkey rice was ordinary, and it wasn’t to my taste. The turkey was plain and there was too much grease, so I did not enjoy the turkey rice so much. If you travel in Chiayi, the Smart Fish is worth visiting, and you must order pottery pot vegetables plus fish head and braised pork on rice with a sunny-side-up egg. Those will tickle your taste buds! The appearance of the building of Smart Fish is ancient and historic because it uses wood as decoration . Also, the furniture is made of wood, too, because I couldcan smell the aroma of the woods as soon as I entered the store.

The main star of Netflix’s Asia Street Food episode on Taiwan, but is IMHO more hype than truly great. The line was really long even at 5pm, it’s was 60 tickets ahead of us and a 1.5 hour wait. Go if you really enjoy fish head. Else there are plenty other options in the night market nearby

We were impressed and proud of Smartfish 林聰明砂鍋魚頭 after we watched the documentary “Street Food” on Netflix, which introduced signature dishes in each city. Smartfish was found in 1953 and is famous for its Stewed Fish Head in Casserole in the neighborhood. There are various and more options on their menu, so it's a perfect spot for gatherings to order a couple of shareable plates. We got their Stewed Fish Head in Casserole for 4-5 people, Mixed Veggies, Fried Bamboo, Boiled Intestine, and Shaved Turkey over Rice to share with a group of six. The portion was huge and the soup of the casserole is refillable. The food was amazingly delicious, especially the casserole since most ingredients were braised soft and flavorful. However, the broth was a little greasy and heavy so we would recommend to order the size that’s smaller than the actual party size in your group.

Came here on Sunday because of Netflix series “Street Food Asia”, and the waiting line was insane! But the dishes was really worth the wait! I’m not really into Taiwanese dishes, but this one tasted different. The soup, the cabbage, the fried fish head were outstandingly delish and so flavorful. Must eat when you visit Chiayi

This is one of popular restaurants in Chiayi city. The signature dish is the fish head stew, however it tastes just all right for me. The chicken rice is pretty good.
