★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I often visit this place and spend time in the mansion next door collecting EVPs. I actually saw an apparition of a Japanese soldier sitting on rubble in the centre room of the ruins.

I came by taxi from Chiayi City (near the train station), because there isn't really any direct transportation if you don't have a car, and it only cost me around $220NT. It's better to come earlier in the morning. I arrived around 10am on a Saturday, and I had the place all to myself for about an hour before other people started showing up. It's purported to be haunted, but I just felt totally relaxed and at peace, listening to the birds and the breeze rustling in the trees, and watching the occasional leaf drop to the ground. I didn't want to leave. Afterward, I enjoyed a drink and some lemon pepper chicken strips in the cafe. They were pretty decent, but nothing special.
