沿革: 新厝寮現稱新光里,原名堀底寮,據傳述乃因地勢低潌,狀似堀底而得名,住民據考證係由大陸追隨鄭成功來台,在此搭寮而居,先民胼手胝足,拓荒墾植,從事耕稼,子孫克紹箕裘略有積蓄,紛紛重建家園,在此奠基,遂命名為新厝寮。 庄民信奉道教,奉祀神像有天上聖母,中壇太子,相傳皆由先民從大陸奉請金身渡海來臺,因最先定居者係由福建省漳州府移居之陳姓,故奉祀開漳聖王以及福德正神。臺灣光復之初,再由郭姓信士雕奉觀世音菩薩奉祀,而成為本庄五大信仰主神。 每尊神明,靈威顯赫,庇佑萬方,遠近馳名,尤以中壇太子及天上聖母,於甲午之戰,滿清政府戰敗,割讓台灣給日本,日軍攻打他里霧(現斗南),本庄首當其衝,曾感化頑強抵抗日軍之庄民,易攻為守,免遭殺戮之禍。第二次世界大戰盟軍轟炸斗南時,居民目睹一孩童以兜圍佩走炸彈及天上聖母處理炸彈金身手指被燒掉一節,居民乃免受一場大災難等事蹟,為庄民津津樂道,日本治台末期,為推行皇民化政策,強迫改造祖先牌位及個人姓名為日本式,尤有甚者為徹底改變信仰而燒毀民間眾神像,此時神威出現,指示重塑五尊神像並免開光點眼,供日本政府處理,而原神像則幸由庄民冒險予以珍藏,得以保存歷史悠久古寶級神像至今。 眾善信鑒于諸神像迄無棲身之所,每由值年爐主輪流供奉,諸多不便,早有建廟之議,苦無適當建廟用地,遲遲無法動工,遂利用五十六年農地重劃良機,集資購買建廟用地,而獲解決。 民國六十七年五月歲次戊午年興建委員會成立,經召開委員會議,決定建廟事宜,善信虔誠響應,紛紛出錢出力,於民國六十八年歲次己未年七月動工,歷經四年,一座巍峨壯觀廟宇新興宮,庄民信仰中心於焉落成,工程造作,器物等總經費計新台幣壹仟零參拾捌萬陸佰柒拾貳元正。 並擇定民國柒拾壹年,歲壬戍年十一月初九日卯時吉時舉行入火安座大典,盛況空前,新興宮命名由來,取自新厝寮之「新」日新又新及「興」財丁興旺,祈求神明,庇佑庄民,合境平安,人丁興旺之涵意。

The residents were spared from a catastrophe and other deeds, and they loved Zhuang people. After four years, a majestic and magnificent temple, the Xinxing Palace, and the Zhuangmin Faith Center were completed in Yu Yan. The total funding for engineering, construction, and utensils was NT$10 million.
