In order to cooperate with agricultural policies and strengthen domestic flower technology research and development, the Agricultural Laboratory of the Executive Yuan Agriculture Committee invited relevant experts and scholars to evaluate and plan in 1996. In 1998, it purchased the original Taitang’s Kanding Farm in Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, and planned to build a flower research center. The Flower Research Center occupies an area of 21 hectares, with a three-story research building, a tissue culture room and an agricultural machinery room each, with a total construction area of 3,200 square meters; 6 precision greenhouses and 9 isolation net rooms, with a total area of 13,167 square meters. The software and hardware facilities and the site preparation project of the experimental field area were completed one after another at the end of 2000, and researchers began to station in July 2001. The Flower Research Center has two research units, the Breeding Department and the Environmental Department. It organizes and arranges 1 director, 2 department heads, 8 preparation researchers, 1 contractor and 6 technicians. At present, the center has two research units: the breeding system and the environmental department; the research focus of the breeding system is the improvement of flower varieties, the breeding of heat resistance, disease resistance, stress resistance, and new flower types and other characteristics, and the cultivation of new varieties suitable for domestic cultivation . The research focus of the Department of Environment is the use of biotechnology, facility cultivation and production period adjustment techniques to establish flower cultivation models to enhance flower quality and industrial competitiveness; and engage in mass production, propagation, storage and transportation technology and flower material utilization of new flower varieties Wait for research. Future development direction and outlook In the future, the Flower Research Center will meet the needs of the development of the domestic flower industry and develop toward the trend of energy saving and carbon saving. In addition to strengthening the development of new flower varieties and new cultivation techniques, it will also provide necessary technical assistance and industrial consulting services for domestic flower farmers and businesses. Future research focus 1. Strengthen the research and development of flower biotechnology New flower color, flower type, and flowering period are the focus of flower industry development and flower variety improvement. In the future, in addition to using traditional breeding techniques, genetic engineering will be combined to regulate the expression of genes related to new flower color biosynthesis to select new flower color varieties. In addition, in response to the impact of the global greenhouse effect and the energy crisis, the development of miniature plant types and short juvenile flower varieties to reduce production space and time requirements is also the focus of the center's future breeding direction. 2. Establish an environmentally friendly production system for flowers Taiwan's flower industry has grown rapidly in recent years. It is now an important region for flower production and consumption in Asia, and it also has a place in the international flower industry. In the future, facing the global green trend of "sustainable development", a flower production system that takes into account both quality and environment is an inevitable trend for the export and sustainable management of Taiwan's flower industry. In the future, it will strengthen the research and development of the flower environmental protection production system, improve the production environment with technology, and establish a standardized cultivation management system and production history to meet the needs of the international market. 3. Establish a standard model for automated energy-saving greenhouses Refinement and automation are the inevitable means for Taiwan agriculture to obtain the right to participate in the international market. Greenhouse cultivation can overcome climate adversity, improve the quality of crops and can be produced throughout the year. However, the current soaring oil prices will increase the production cost of high-energy-consuming greenhouse cultivation. To discourage farmers. In the future, it plans to cooperate with relevant units to develop solar energy as the main power source, combined with dual-effect heat pump technology to regulate the greenhouse environment, and use crop physiological sensing and wireless sensing network systems for energy-saving operations to achieve the purpose of precise cultivation automation.
