In the eleventh year of Xianfeng (1861), the congregation of the Zhai religion sent Huang Changcheng to preach in Taiwan and set up a grasshopper at Youyingpu (now Tainan Hospital) in Donganfang, the capital of Taiwan, to worship the Guanyin Bodhisattva and the ancestors in teaching. It was renovated in the 5th year of Tongzhi (1866), and rebuilt into the Shishizhai Temple in the 20th year of Guangxu (1894). After entering the period of Japanese rule in Taiwan, in the 19th year of Meiji (1896), Tainan Hospital was requisitioned as a land for hospital use. At the time, the host Zheng Liangmo bought Wudi Temple Street with compensation and donations for a total of 2,000 yuan. Zhang's family house, demolished the original building materials and stone and wood carvings to reconstruct Zhaitang at the current site. In the nineth year of the Taisho era (1920), the host Chen Yaowen rebuilt it, but was affected in the second World War later. After the war, it was repaired in the 35th year of the Republic of China (1946), and the 87th year of the Republic of China (1998) was the most recent renovation. During the renovation, the building materials that originally exposed the plain wood were painted and painted. It was announced as a Grade III monument in 1974 (1985). The Zhaitang belongs to the Zhaitang congenital school. It is also the earliest Zhaitang founded by the school in Taiwan. It is the best traditional wooden building in Tainan City. The building was originally located near the Tainan Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, but it was later rebuilt at the site.
