★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a pilgrimage to come here and eat THE famous Guan Tsai Ban, coffin bread, each time we are near Tainan ! Luckily today is less crowded then usual and we don't need to line up too long. There are also other dishes like the eel noodles but we mainly come here for the Guan Tsai Ban !

But this was OHHHHH SOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!!!!
We had the original 棺材板 at first and it opened up our appetite. Then we went for the curry flavoured 棺材板!
I would prefer the original flavoured 棺材板 though! Even my Taiwanese friend who tried this told me this was reallyyyyyy authentic and great! So come and try this! ??

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 棺材板(coffin bread) obviously is the main attraction here. They sell 2 flavors of coffin bread: classic and curry. Only the gravy is different, the bread and fillings are all the same. I personally like the curry more because the gravy in classic is thick but a bit weak. Of course it could be just my tongue's preference. Quite pricey and you won't feel full with just eating that. We also tried the other dishes like fried eel which is also good, but I guess not everyone dares to eat eel.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Famed originator of the coffin toast since 1936 reckons a must visit. The toast was heavily buttered and fried. Then drenched in a pool of cream sauce melody of chicken breast and supermarket frozen mix vegetable.
First bite into the fried bread was yummy. And it went downhill very rapidly there on. Chicken breast was dry. Cream sauce tasted like the powdered variety.
This is one dish desperately needing a makeover for the new melliennia.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a curry toast, which was quite a disappointment, I expected much more from this establishment, given its hype and traditions. The single piece of carelessly crafted cheap toast bread filled with curry and exactly two small pieces of squid was everything but outstanding or memorable.
The ama crew had an extremely 臭臉 attitude as well, I have never seen such a grumpy restaurant staff anywhere in Taiwan before, so I didn't really feel welcome.
