早年民風保守，火葬並不普遍，大願院的周圍是亂葬崗。隨著人口愈來愈多，活人與往生者爭地，加上社會進步民風開放，火葬幾乎是現代人唯一的選擇。這些年大願院旁的亂葬崗，也經過數次整建，如今變身為一棟頗具特色建築的生命紀念館。
不變的是大願院依舊是旗津人重要的信仰道場，每年清明節時，仍舊擠滿了來祭祖的民眾。
 Qijin Dayuanyuan enshrines Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, which is one of the important religious sites for local residents in Qijin.
In the early days, the folk customs were conservative, and cremation was not common. The Dayuanyuan was surrounded by mass graves. With the increasing population, the living and the deceased for land, coupled with the progress of the society and the opening up of folk customs, cremation is almost the only option for modern people. In recent years, the mass graves next to the Dayuanyuan have been rebuilt several times, and now it has been transformed into a life memorial with a distinctive building.
What remains unchanged is that Dayuanyuan is still an important religious dojo for Qijin people. Every year during the Qingming Festival, it is still crowded with people who come to worship their ancestors.
