鸞山森林博物館 - Taitung County

This place is quite interesting and full of nature's surprises recommended if you join a group tour and understand Chinese language.

An incredible 5 hour experience of traditional aboriginal culture of the mountain people; we walked on moderately vigorous trails to the famous Walking Tree, and to terraced levels of the "cultural museum" to try roasting a skewer of mountain pork, to make offerings to the forest spirits in the "ancestral hall", and then to hike a 30- minute rigorous climbing trail through old-growth forest. Visitors squeeze through narrow rock fissures and steep faces with the assist of rope ladders and hand grabs. The tour culminates in the grand finale, a great feast in the "dining hall" where long tables are filled with a bounty of dozens of meat and meatless dishes featuring hunted and foraged ingredients on the mountain. A demonstration of pounding steamed sweet rice into mochi ends the tour on a sweet note. Our guide was humorous and knowledgeable - an excellent host to a large tour group of mixed ages. There are comfortable resting areas in the shade for those who opt out of the rigorous hike. Bathrooms on the lower terrace are clean, with an amazing view of the mountains. The entire experience was thoughtfully curated and unforgettable!

We went for the hike, tour and lunch. It was enjoyable, we got to see a large "walking tree", hike in the forest, and eat delicious food. The guide was an entertaining kid who told lots of stories along the way. The hike was moderately strenuous, a tiny bit tricky in places for children and the elderly. Lunch was surprisingly good given the remote location and basic, no-electricity, wood-fired kitchen. Views at the location are great. In the end, with every activity being prefaced by a little spiel by the guide, it got pretty long: we started at 9am and wrapped the last activity by 2pm.

The tour including lunch is around 4hrs. Make sure to wear good shoes because you will be walking & climbing through the forest. It's not hard but the rocks can be slippery.

If you go to visit Taitung, you never miss Luanshan Forest Cultural Museum(LFCM). We made a reservation through the LFCM official website about 2 months ago. The day, we drove our cars to gather in front of the Luanshan police office. Then, under the guide Pa-li who was one of LFCM leaders, and his assistants' leadership, we experienced lots of interesting activities such as visiting the tree which was able to walk, DIY BBQ, drinking Bunun tea and Bunun rice wine, praying Mountain God, exploring the mountain and forest, having delicious traditional Bunun lunch, pounding mochi, planting a tree, and finally, practicing sining Pasibutbut to pray for the earth. During this period of time, the guide Pa-li was so intelligent and humor that all of us not only felt very happy but also learned a lot of information about the history of the LFCM, the culture and value opinion about Bunun, and the most important thing was that we humanbeings must respect our mother Earth and take actions to save our only one Earth as possible as we could. To sum up, it was a very interesting, exciting and unforgettable nice day. Excellent experience but as many pointed out, the capacity control should be done to have better quality! A group of 20-30 is supposed to be the maximum, no more! But they have over 100!
