A very special church, which is mutually compatible with the Japanese shrine. The whole is open for visits, but the volume should be kept quiet. There are two hundred-year-old husband and wife trees opposite the church. You can take pictures by the way.

It is inside the Xincheng Catholic Church, but it can also be said that the Xincheng Catholic Church was built on the site of the Xincheng Shrine. The Shinjo Shrine established during the Japanese Occupation was a background of various misfortunes and revenges. After Japan withdrew from Taiwan at the end of World War II, the aboriginal Taroko compatriots angrily demolished the shrine that was a spiritual icon of Japan to vent their hatred. The entrance torii archway, 8 stone lanterns, 2 statues of gods and beasts, and a platform for sacrificial offerings to the main hall are now retained. Today, the platform has also become the pavilion of the Virgin of the Catholic Church. The reason why the remains of this shrine is kept in the Catholic Church is that the Church of St. Bernard in Switzerland bought the land of the shrine in 1964 and completed the construction of the church in 1966. At that time, the priest of the church believed that the facilities of the site still had its stage of historical and cultural bearing, which allowed people to not forget the facts and experiences of the past and strive to retain them. Therefore, there is a scene where the religious buildings of the East and the West are in the same place.

Instagram: sekainomys
Hualien Xincheng Catholic Church was completed in 1956 on the original site of Xincheng Shrine. Known as the Taiwanese version of Noah's Ark, the Catholic Church has the solemnity of a Western church and the mystery of a Japanese shrine. The fairy tale colors depicted in the picture books have attracted many tourists to visit in recent years, wandering among the torii gates, and experiencing the traces left during the Japanese occupation period.
