★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Remote creeks further upstream. The northern shanshan creek is challenging. Use a professional guide as the water level in creek could change in downpour.. Less crowd here. We only saw 3 other people when we were there in end Aug.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It’s not allowed to go down to play water. Probably covid or something else??? Surrounding areas are dirty too, people were throwing garbage everywhere.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a great place to visit if you are in the Hualien area for a day excursion. There is a good swimming spot right in the village, especially if you are bringing kids or are travelling with not-strong swimmers. Additionally, there are tours offered (or you can do it yourself) up to the Golden Grotto waterfall. If you are the adventuring type, you can travel up the river to see a few cool destinations or bring a barbecue and do some shrimp fishing. The people here are also friendly, so it will make for a great trip!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I really loved this place. We visited on a really hot day and a swim in the river was just perfect. There are a few little fish in the river that swim close to you. The water temperature was perfect, the river is very calm with almost no current, making it easy and safe to swim in. One downside was that there were a lot of Xiao hei wen （小黑蚊). Which are like mosquitoes but much worse.
