新社岩棺是台灣二座保存最完整的史前新石器時代岩棺之一，一是台東的白守蓮岩棺，二就是新社岩棺。
據學界研究，新社岩棺是台灣東部史前「新石器文化」遺留器物，只有花東海岸新社到台東才有，年代距今三千年至二千年前，屬於新石器時代晚期的麒麟文化。

Xinshe Rock Coffin is one of the two most complete prehistoric Neolithic rock coffins in Taiwan. One is the Baishoulian Rock Coffin in Taitung, and the other is the Xinshe Rock Coffin.
According to academic research, Xinshe rock coffins are artifacts left over from the prehistoric "Neolithic culture" in eastern Taiwan. They can only be found in the East Coast Xinshe to Taitung. They date from 3,000 to 2,000 years ago and belong to the Kylin culture of the late Neolithic age.
