Hot Spring Resort in Hualien with Friendly Host and Nice Food.

Good price for backpacking b&b. Duvet and down pillows, small outdoor hotspring and pretty mountain view.

My family and I stayed here on our drive south to Taidong. I enjoyed the hot mineral bath. I shared the bath with two men from Northern Ireland and enjoyed my conversation with them. The owners are cheerful and friendly. The breakfast was good. I didn't care for the dinner, but the vegetables served came right out of the hotel's own garden. Close by the hotel, there are at least two sites worth visiting. There is the Walami Trail. This I really loved. Spectacular views available from the trail and lots of flowers to see. Then there are the daylily fields (Liu shi dan shan). The hotel owners can direct you. Though we encountered mosquitoes outside the hotel (no surprise in Taiwan), we were amazed and pleased to discover NO mosqitoes — not one — in our room. Wow! The owners claim that this is due to the fact that they have planted New Zealand tea trees all around the building. Down in the lobby, they sell a lotion and other products made from their tea trees. We enjoyed our stay so much that we stopped again on our way back to Hualien. This time, I had the mineral bath all to myself.

I loved the establishment, and the views. The hot springs are great. The personal rooms have hotspring bathtubs, which is wonderful, and there are personal hot tub rooms and two door pools which are perfect for stargazing. My complaints are that its a bit out of the way, and that the breakfast food was somewhat subpar. Rented a room for the night, it was worth it for sure.

The host himself is a trained triathlon expert who makes the stay such amazing experience full of well thought out designs in this hot spring vila. Whether active sports enthusiasts or casual vacationers will find this tranquil spot on the hills enjoyable.

Considering the price, the breakfast there is a joke. The rooms are gorgeous, but there is no "outside" outside pool. Their outside pool is underneath a roof. The place could be cleaner. The hot spring is of good quality. The owner is friendly enough, but keeps hovering.

We arrived on the hill by bike late at night and couldn’t find any food. We asked the staff at New Life for advice and they generously offered to cook a small meal for us! They were already packing up their kitchen but stayed back to help us. We weren’t even guests, we were staying at a guesthouse down the road. The meal was really good too!
