Arkansas Diner

I’ve been in Taiwan for almost 2 years, so when Im missing my American food I always go there. It’s hands down the best and most authentic American food in Taiwan.

What a pleasure to dine here ! Amazing food, ice cold beer and great atmosphere. Definitely make a trip down there again.

Delicious authintic American food right here in Kaohsiung! Make sure to stop in and get some grub!

The food is always good. Me and my friends usually go for the cornbread, but the biscuits, the gravy, the salads; everything is always delicious. And the owner is always wandering around to make sure everyone is doing well.

My daughter and I spent Saturday night in Kaohsiung and had a truly great meal at the Arkansas Diner. I had the half rack of ribs with coleslaw, beans with bacon, corn on the cob, and a biscuit ($450). Izzi had the meatloaf ($340) with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, and a biscuit, and we shared an appetizer of sloppy joe chilli, jalapeños, fries, pulled pork, tater tots and melted cheese called “The Bill” — presumably named after one of Arkansas’ more famous sons, Bill Clinton ($220). The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, extraordinarily meaty, and slathered with the owner’s homemade BBQ sauce. They’d compare favourably with any of the BBQ ribs I’ve had in Taipei, and at a considerably lower price. The coleslaw was also good, as were the beans and biscuit. My daughter loved her meatloaf but couldn’t finish, so we had the leftovers packed away for us. The portion sizes of everything were exceedingly generous, and we were both stuffed when we left. This place has a DIY charm to it that you don’t see in Taipei restaurants much these days. It’s decorated with all kinds of Arkansas-themed decor, the music was both vintage and American (I hadn’t heard Kris Kristofferson’s “Convoy” in years), and the friendly owner & head chef, Landis Shook, kept popping into the dining room to chat with the customers, most of whom he seemed to know by name. We liked this place so much we came back for breakfast the next day and had an equally good experience. If I lived in Kaohsiung, I’d be coming here all the time. It’s authentic comfort food, lovingly prepared, and at astonishingly low prices, at least by Taipei standards.

This place is amazing. The food is the real deal and the staff are super friendly and workin hard. The atmosphere is like you tripped into a portal and are back home. I appreciate that the flavors haven't been altered for local tastes. The owner is a really nice dude and you can tell he cares about quality. Seems like everything is homemade. We were in Kaohsiung for 2 days and ate here twice. We loved looking at all the stuff on the walls and watching Taiwanese have their minds blown by chili cheese tots, biscuits and gravy, and so on.

I hit Arkansas Diner for dinner and breakfast. All the food was amazing. The pecan pie, corn bread, and biscuits and gravy were especially satisfying cuz they are hard to find in Taiwan and the flavors were spot on. The boss was also super friendly. Strongly recommend this place.

an authentic American restaurant with chill atmosphere. the staffs here were friendly and very helpful for new customers. a little bit greasy for a traditional Taiwanese who is not familiar to American country food. the salad was impressive drizzled with their special sauce made of blue cheese. the price was reasonable for the quality of the food here.
