Checheng Train Station

The Checheng Railway Station was built in the Japanese occupation era and is the terminal station of the Jiji branch railway. The current Checheng Station was rebuilt by the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Management Office using logs after the severe damage of the 921 earthquake. The open space in front is also paved with logs, which is very characteristic.

Checheng Station is the terminus of the Jiji Branch Railway. It is located below the top of Mingtan Dam in Shuili Township, Nantou County. It was a transfer station for sugar cane produced by the Puli Sugar Factory during the Japanese occupation. Depot" (Taiwanese), hence the name of Checheng Station. Because of the construction of Daguan Power Plant, the Qifenche railway was widened and merged into the western trunk line. In 1960, Sun Hai of Zhenchang Wood Co., Ltd. was engaged in forest land development, and Checheng became an important distribution center of Nantou timber. In 1966, when the torii gate of Meiji Jingu in Japan was struck by lightning, the Sun family sold ten giant trees, each 16 meters long and nearly 2 meters in diameter.
