★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We booked a room for four and we were impressed with cleanliness and flooring of the room/public area. Air conditioner is basically not required as the area is bone chilling at night. Big kitchen is also available with kitchenwares ready for cooking. Light breakfast will be served and guests can choose a main course and a drink one night before. Ample parking space available. Perhaps a minor drawback is that the place is a bit difficult to find especially during night time (we used Waze to navigate). Not much activities at night but guests can have a stroll at tea farm in front of the homestay early in the morning. As a whole, Chia Yuen is a great place for guests looking for a peaceful and quiet stay in Alishan.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic and lovely home stay for Alishan. Owner very obliging and helpful. Runs us to the bus stands whenever required and picked us up on demand. Breakfast is not the best but that's a minor quibble. Room is spacious, clean and serviced daily. There is a self catering kitchen as well as a large lounge on the lower floor. The surrounding areas consist of tea gardens and walking trails through bamboo forest and cypress. I find this area to be far superior to the more popular Alishan Forest.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very good and usually also quiet place next to a tea plantation. The owner's family is always friendly and helpful. One could taste and buy tea from the owner. Very clean place. There are bedrooms for two to four people with bathrooms in each room. Downstairs is a kitchen one could use to prepare dishes. Bed & breakfast or only bed available. Ideal base for walking on many trails around this area. There is one bedroom downstairs suitable to handicapped or old people Strong recommendation.
