Fangyuan Lighthouse

awesome place to enjoy in water

It’s a black and white lighthouse with some seafood farms nearby. There used to be a little market nearby, but it seems to have closed in recent years. I wouldn’t make a special trip just to see this lighthouse, but it’s a good stop if you are in the area.

There is a large tidal land outside the lighthouse. It is recommended to go there to see the sunset. There are local tours take you out and dig for clams. There are restaurants nearby to have them cooked. Do aware of the high tide time which will be posted by the local fire department.

Nice place,quit,not crowded,easy to park car. The lighthouse was built in 1983 at the eastern side of Wanggong Fishing Port to ensure the safety of vessels moving around the port. The octagonal lighthouse is painted in black and white vertical bands and stands up to 35.7 meters. The tower was constructed with reinforced concrete and equipped with fourth class electric lamp, which generated 28,000 candlepower light for as far as 16.6 nautical miles. It was built with a power generation room, store room and dorms. The light beam from the lighthouse is five seconds light, then five seconds dark... Fangyuan Lighthouse is the landmark of Wanggong. Just drive along the coastal route of Tai-Route 17, you can see the lighthouse far away. Fangyuan Lighthouse is octagonal in shape, with the height of 37.4m. It is the tallest lighthouse in Taiwan. Its light is 28000 watts, beaconing every 5 second. It guards over the boats sailing at night. Different from other lighthouses, which are usually white in color, it is painted into black and white stripes. No wonder it is renowned as the “youngest lighthouse in Taiwan.” Its black and white stripes appearance has already earned it “The lighthouse with the most unique features in Taiwan.”
