★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There is really a lot to see and do in Fo guang shan so please come with plenty of time in hand. One can get a bus from Kaohsiung main bus stand next to train station. There are a number of temples and museums in the complex, and also the Buddha memorial which needs a couple of hours by itself. FGS monastery is not completely open to visitors, but part of it is accessible. One can also stay in the guest house by booking in advance.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Extremely beautiful place, calm, peaceful. We left with a bit of a sour taste unfortunately as one monk (nun?) was really pressure sales about donations, and you couldn't help seeing dollar signs behind the kind welcoming gestures of others. A bit heartbreaking...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Such a divine place. I really enjoyed visiting the Monastery. A must see if you are in Kaohsiung. Buses are available from HSR Zuoying station. It took only 30 min. Free entrance. It took almost 3-4 hrs for me to cover the entire area by foot. Apart from the splendid Main Shrine area it has a cultural exhibition hall, Great Buddha land, gardens, university and a few lodges I guess. A vegetarian restaurant is there on the first floor of Go Guang Shan Pilgrim's Hall. Good food, quiet place. Plenty of restrooms inside. You can go to the Buddha Memorial hall by walking if you have time. Otherwise buy a few dollars ticket from the souvenir shop near to the main entrance they will transport you to the memorial hall by a small bus.
