★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 民國90年的潭美颱風造成高雄地區嚴重大淹水，第一科大為了改善校園防洪機制，因此規劃建造了這座生態池，在建設完成之初，池邊停留了一批由西伯利亞南飛渡冬的過境鳥—高蹺鴴，因此將生態池命名為鴴池，池畔大石上有余光中老師特別為此而作的詩。

The Tammei Typhoon in the Republic of China caused severe flooding in Kaohsiung in 1990. In order to improve the flood control mechanism of the campus, the First University of Science and Technology planned to build this ecological pool. The bird in transit-the plover on stilts, so the ecological pond is named plover pond. There is a poem specially written by Yu Guangzhong on the boulder beside the pond.
