Houtanjing (literary monkey-fathoms-a-well) is actually a site of tourist attraction in Nantou city, surrounded by pineapple field nearby. The place locates on hills in central Taiwan, giving great view of the town below in the plain. The area is developed for tourism with some good designs, like the garden and the tower. Following the route, one can explore the area of countryside landscape. The sky bridge is like a landmark here, connecting two hills for passengers to see the valley. A walk here is a good choice if you visit Nantou.

I went there in the early morning. The place opens at 8.30, and I bought the 50 NTD ticket at 8.33. So, when I got there, it was just me, the pouring rain, and the mist. It just pretty awesome because it was just the perfect condition that I am looking for.

This place is awesome to unwind and do some soul searching while crossing the bridge. Across the bridge is a temple where you can also enjoy the view of the entire bridge..

It's a nice stop on a long road trip. Pretty cool if you didn't know about it. You don't need more than 20 mins here. Pay 50 or 30元 for car or motorcycle parking, respectively. It's a bit high. But the average "scared of heights" individual will not be intimidated. The ground, foliage below looks quite soft.

What this place needs: The bridge and a nice, grassy park with trees and discreet paths across. What we got: The essence of Taiwanese landscaping, a soulless pile of concrete and poorly maintained facilities, a shooting range (!), unsanitary, medieval-style toilets, ghastly sheet metal buildings and figures, disturbing background music and more concrete. Why must every natural landmark need lots of concrete, steel and bricks? The view is undoubtedly nice, but the environment is indeed poor. Entry fee is NT$50 for adults.
