★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 佳冬老街古蹟巡禮，佳冬眾多古蹟最負盛名的蕭家古厝、步月樓、敬字亭、羅家理學第、西隘門的輝煌歷史有著密不可分的關係，古厝精緻的雙回格局充分展現了清末時期中式宅院的建築美學，回味客家人生活的精髓等等，可以窺見當年客家先祖不畏艱難，奮戰到底的硬頸精神，佳冬豐富的文化底蘊，是值得大家去欣賞ㄧ遊的地方。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 在路上看到「活的博物館」指示牌，好奇google 開了一下簡介得知是歷史古蹟，我們就來看看了。我們到時沒有導覽員，但定時導覽，因行程關係沒有留下來等，但光是裡面的歷史軌跡夠讓我回味了。
我也是鄉下長大的孩子，裡面保存的舊東西讓我還懷念，尤其除夕前一天，我家倉庫燒起來把我的曾祖母留下的嫁妝、皮箱和長椅凳燒的精光，這些東西都將近一百年的歷史了。
文物保存良好，古宅內飄著淡淡的桂花香還有含笑花香（兩個在不同地方），再飄著古宅內的懷舊風，彷彿走進時光隧道。
 I saw the "Living Museum" sign on the road, and curiously googled the introduction and learned that it was a historical monument, so we took a look. We didn't have a tour guide when we arrived, but we guided the tour regularly, and we didn't stay and wait because of the itinerary, but the historical track inside was enough for me to reminisce.
I am also a child who grew up in the country, and I still miss the old things preserved in it, especially the day before New Year's Eve, my warehouse burned down and burned all the dowry, luggage and benches left by my great-grandmother. Hundred years of history.
The cultural relics are well preserved. There is a faint fragrance of sweet-scented osmanthus and smiling flowers in the ancient house (two in different places), and then there is the nostalgic wind in the ancient house, as if walking into a time tunnel.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Buildings like this make me wish Taiwan had something like the British National Trust. Classed as a historical monument but doesn't seem it can be run as a charity. Some of the family still live there but what they can do is limited by the government and the lack of available funds. But after seeing this impressive house, it just highlights what treasures have probably already been destroyed...

The Sêu family (蕭家) came to Taiwan at the end of the 19th century. Through the vivid “house tour” by their descendants, one can see how the family struggled and survived from the two major foreign regimes of the Japanese Empire & the KMT from a Hakka perspective.
Beyond this attraction, the village itself is indeed a living Hakka museum, which is rare in Taiwan. Do not miss out such a gem!
