Hsinchu Confucius Temple

The original site of the Confucian Temple was in Chenggong. It was built in the 22nd year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty. It is divided into Dacheng Hall, Lianxing Gate and Dongxi Liangyuan. The annual Teacher’s Day Ceremony for Confucius, local gentry and heads of government agencies attended the ceremony, making Hsinchu a cultural center. It is the first building completed by private donations in Zhuqian City. The project lasted eight years and cost about twenty thousand taels. It is also an academy of Tamsui Hall, so since the 23rd year of Jiaqing, the Confucian Temple opened for entrance examinations. Zhuchian students do not have to travel to Changhua any more, which is much more convenient, and naturally has a positive effect on the culture and education of Zhuchian area. During the Japanese Occupation, it was the place where many schools in Hsinchu City were founded, such as Hsinchu Girls’ School, Jianhua Junior High, Hsinchu Middle School, Hsinchu Girls’ High School, Hsinchu High School, etc. In 1945, the Hsinchu County Council approved the plan to relocate the Confucian Temple. The relocation was completed on September 28, 47, on the left side of Zhongshan Park, which is now in Hsinchu Park, next to the gymnasium.
