ATM‘s have been used to be the extension of banks’ service, the number of bank branches is about 3,500 in Taiwan, and every branch has its own ATM’s (not counting the ATM’s owned by the post office). While almost every convenience store has ATM, the number of CV stores in Taiwan is about 11,500, that means the ATM’s installed in the CV stores is at least about equal to those installed in bank branches (based on the assumption that every CV store has one ATM, while every bank branch has at least 2 ATM’s). The machine works all day long, the year round, without any complaint. People use ATM’s mainly for drawing cash, I do the same, once or twice a month, but some ATM’s can be served for depositing cash, some small retailers bring the cash they collected daily to deposit there, to save them the trouble of keeping cash by themselves. Usually the cash drawing from the ATM is subject to service charge, but banks will offer free service if the drawings are limited to a certain number, I’m free from such charges, due to my drawings aren’t that many. ATM’s can also be used to direct money transmission, which is very convenient for some people to buy stuff online, and they prefer not to use credit cards for any reason, but sometimes certain aged people might be tricked by the fraudulists to have their accounts emptied, banks’ employees and CV store employees are trained to identify such abnormal activities. I usually use this bank’s ATM to draw cash. 行員都很客氣。我偶爾會利用到這家分行的 ATM 提領現金。
