Easy 小百岳. Many interconnected trails. Suitable for running.

Jiantan Mountain is located in the neighborhood of Jiantan Station (Exit 2) of the Taipei Metro (MRT). When you get off the train, follow the sign and walk across the road. The entrance of the trail is right next to a small temple. Along the trail there are a number of badminton courts and fenced spots for recreational use. Singing is often heard, and litter is not rarely seen. You do not find much peace and quiet here, but, unfortunately, more disturbance. When you arrive at the observatory, however, you will be attracted by the expansive view. Jiantan Mountain is in fact one of the few places nearest to the center of Taipei where you can see planes taking off and landing. I suggest that you continue and arrive at the Laodifang (the Usual Place) to take in a different view. After that you can return to where you went or choose to get out at Lane 282, Section 5 of Zhongshan North Road (near Ming Chuan University) or Lane 165, Tongbei Street (near Shih Chien University). One of the advantages of Jiantan Mountain is its proximity to Jiantan Station and its surrounding attractions, Shilin Night Market in particular. You can take a tour and have some snacks after the hike.

Very nice hikes just beside the Grand Hotel. It's mainly concrete stairs so no special equipment needed. Lots of small tea houses on the way to stop and great view over Taipei from the top and scenic points.

Nice trail outskirt of Taipei City. Accessible via buses and MRT.
