本校創校於民國36年2月,起先是日本人在南靖糖廠所辦之南靖小學,而於光復之初,由水上國民學校接收,而本廠員工子女須遠到水上國民學校就讀,群感不便,因而籌畫自辦小學,一面組織董事會報請之案,交涉收回水上國民學校接收之教具圖書儀器等,成立嘉義市私立台糖小學,於36年9月30日開學上課。
