What a great hike. Breathtaking. Kudos to the Taiwanese for providing such a beautiful, well maintained trail with great historical information along the way.

Jinbaoli trail is an ancient way between Jinshan to Taipei, I hiked and feel the way between Qingtiangang and Bayan. The trail is all the way uphill from Bayan to Qingtiangang, so opposite direction is relatively easy. On both endpoints of the trail there is a bus line. From Qingtiangang toward Bayan you start with a bright and windy grassland similarly to Qixingshan. The altitude decreases fast so many stone steps look almost as cliff. About half the trail you would enter into the woods with comparatively flat. The woods is darker, the trail is along the Shanghuangxi banks, so creek water and birds sound is always with you. If you go there after a few days of raining, the stream forms a rushing waterfall. There are some ancient names in the trail making you feel an imaginary of return to the past time and space. The end point at Bayan side is Shanghuangxi valley, clear and cheerful after going out of the woods, accompanied by a smell of sulfur.

Away form the hustling and bustling of city life. This is the go to place for trekking or a refreshing walk on the weekends. However, it is not advised to go on a hot summer day since there is not much cover. 前段步道平緩,老少咸宜,是週休二日出遊的好去處。行間的山澗清涼、有遮蔭,是歇腳的好地方

A nice way to spend a morning. As it's always the case with Taiwan's National Parks, one never knows what is open and what isn't, until they get to the trailhead. In my case, the Jinbaoli trail was only open until the bridge and the grasslands where closed because of some recent incident between humans and the water buffaloes. Instead, I spend some time exploring another trail that branches out at Jinbaoli gate and runs east and passes through a few pleasant peaks and ravines. All in all, it was a good excuse to leave Taipei for a few hours.

Beautiful, easy and well maintained hiking trail. The signs were pretty clear and the routes were easy to take, no much ups and down. It is safe and relaxing to complete the trail.
