Jinyue Falls

Excellent place to enjoy a little swim in some very fresh water. You can slide down the smaller waterfall but be careful!

Jinyue Falls: I've often visited this beautiful valley in Nan'ao Township just to swim and play in the beautiful pools and slide or jump down one really amazing natural water-slide (about 5 to 7m). You can also picnic here and on weekends many locals love to barbecue and have a jolly old time. This was the first time that I river-traced all the way to the actual Jinyue waterfall at the top - and what a beautiful sight! From the water-slide, it took about an hour and a half to trace all the way to the source of all the beauty and fun. The final waterfall comes crashing down from about 30 to 40m into a huge rock pool that's surrounded by lush green and steep cliff face on all sides. It is truly beautiful, and well worth the effort! On weekends the local Aboriginal kids love to play and show off their diving and jumping skills. It's a treat to see to what lengths (or heights) they'll go to impress! Take note, the river-trace up to the final waterfall is not for the inexperienced. If you are a novice and really want to do this, go with an experienced local or join one of the many river-tracing adventure tours that go up there. Last Saturday, there were at least four different groups of river-tracing tours and everyone is kitted out with life-jackets, wetsuits, boots, helmets, ropes, etc. The guides really seem to put safety first, and it seems all customers are having an awesome time. Smiling, happy, selfie faces all round!!! :)

amazing place without much crowd and somewhat challenging route but certainly very rewarding at the end with a gorgeous waterfall. can be accessed from taipei by direct train to nanao or bus transfer from luodong. direct trains are sporadic though and can take up to 2.5hrs and taxi from nanao station to the waterfall trail costs 250nt if going by a group of at least 4ppl, renting a car from taipei would be the best. oh and make sure to get some rental shoes to walk in the water or brave it barefeet is also doable

If you’re going to choose only one place for river trekking for your friends from other countries, this is THE place. 4-5 hours round trip, equipped with water slides, cliffs to jump varying from 5-12 meters, easy detour to skip the canyon session, huge waterfall at the end of the trip, and of course, the crystal ear blue water. Absolutely the place to go in the summer time. Just have in mind that this river will be packed in summer, better to be prepared for that or find some weekdays to visit.
