★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have taught at four institutions in three countries over 13 or so years. This is the best and most positive school that I have worked at. The staff here are focused on getting the best outcomes for students - and indeed for teachers. There is a culture coming from senior administration that includes honest but always constructive and fair encouragement for individuals to achieve their best. Thank you Kang Chiao!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good pay and academic management, bad administration, location, and atmosphere.
This is my third international school, and I've worked here for 2 years. It has high pay and there is a lot of support and welcome for innovative teaching methods, which is awesome. Academically, the management and staff are very open to new ideas and supportive. There is some great teaching that goes on here, and I definitely improved as a teacher due to this support. The pay is also above average for Taiwan, though not extremely so, and mitigated somewhat by the high amount of weekend work and greater average work hours required, with prep work sometimes being difficult due to club meetings or homerooms. The students are generally high ability and bright, though they had some problems with motivation and very uneven English (not unusual in international schools that are not fully international). Still, they are some of the best I've taught.
The school has many drawbacks. The location is probably the most serious one- it's located on an isolated mountain about 30 minutes' drive from the city of Taipei. The added commute time, and lack of food and housing options nearby, invalidate 2 of the best things about Taiwan, the excellent public transit and dining options. The facilities are good, but the school is often annoying to navigate, requiring many staircases and out-of-the-way elevators. The long commute is also exacerbated by the high amount of weekend work required, about 10 Saturdays a year. Several of these are non-academic, and mandated by the administration. I won't go into detail about the owner's administration except to say that it is best when it is uninvolved, and when involved it is almost always negative.
Despite the high pay, the morale of teachers is also very low here, the lowest of the international schools I've worked at. Many of meetings devolved into complaints about the administration and workload, there is lots of open rudeness and gossip, and the atmosphere overall is cold and unfriendly. Many teachers expressed to me that they were staying only because of the pay. Though my department was free of much of this bickering and was fairly positive, the general sense of unhappiness is very apparent, particularly on the teacher's buses and at larger meetings. One of the reasons I left my teaching position in my home country was to avoid the burn-out, bitter teacher stereotype, but I was disturbed to find it in abundance here. I believe the longer working hours, long commute, and large amount of weekend work are most responsible, along with often frustrating decisions by the non-academic administration.
Overall, though I value my time here, I can not recommend a school with this many drawbacks to other teachers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Before reading this I have to say that this is not necessarily a statement of Satire, all the thoughts which appear after reading this depends on your perception and understanding.
If you are trying to find an example of a totalitarian-formed government in the Republic of China, Kang Chiao International School might be a suitable place to review.
Here in KCBS, relatives of Students pay over 300k to experience the "fascinating" environment of the campus.
One of the symbolistic features is the management of the Students Affairs also known as the "Department of Students Affairs" (DSA). The DSA holds absolute power over the Department of Academic Affairs (DAA) and the students. Everything a student or teacher does must go through the eyes of DSA, just like Oceania in George Well's 1984. What a miracle when a school can simulate a scene in a well-known novel! Sounds pretty fun right? Despite the name of "International School", what Kang Chiao offer is just traditional Taiwanese education but in English. Ain't that just fascinating?
Other than mocking Oceania, what actually makes Kang Chiao eye-attractive is its price. As I said previously, each family pay over 300k per semester to have their children receive a "better education". What is special about "better education" is that the students get the chance to access computer-based devices during the class. What does this mean? It means that the only skill required for students is to hide their games or videos from the drill instructors and faculties from DSA. On the other hand, just like what a public school in Taiwan does, everything is based on fields of Criteria, the more you satisfy them, the higher grade you get. Isn't it good enough to trap the students inside a single field of thought, and to teach them that the way to succeed in life is to get a good grade, but not on gaining new skills? Of course, by doing so, students are able to become perfect propagandas for the school to attract new cadets!
In conclusion, Kang Chiao offers the chance to experience the fascist nature and an ideal way to spend your money in an insane speed. In my opinion, Kang Chiao is the dream place for small but rich brains. If you want to bring yourself as well as your children into a great Suffer, Kang Chiao is your place, just pay the 300k bill, and the rest is easy!
