以隆恩庄得名，為昔日隆恩埔、劉厝埔和麥子園等庄地區。麥子園：因地處低窪，恐被水災，乃耕種小麥，以此命名。劉厝埔：因當時開墾佃人皆為劉姓居民，故為此名。隆恩埔，相傳在乾隆、嘉慶之際開闢，為官府賜予營兵之隆恩土地，故以此為名。
龍恩里：
民國98年時大龍埔地區(含北大特定區)當時人口已近2萬人，遂於民國99年5月3日，由原龍埔里作行政區劃而分出，因其係由原龍埔里分出，而保留其首字「龍」，以顯其尊；又因隆恩街處於該里範圍內，故取其「恩」字命名之，現共編為31鄰，國立臺北大學即位於本里。
