★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went here during Taiwan Lunar New Year Holiday. There are 2 ways to reach here, from 圓山風景區 & 劍潭山 通北街 登山口. If you want to go directly to this viewing deck, it's better to go from 劍潭山 通北街 登山口 because there are paved stairs & not to off-road path. The path from 圓山風景區 has several viewing decks which you can see Taipei city from mountain while hiking but some of the path are off-road.
If you plan to capture Taipei 101 from this deck, please prepare telephoto lens. It's not recommended to use smartphone. Don't forget to see the weather forecast too. Make sure that it will be sunny all the day, otherwise you can't capture the detail of Taipei 101. It was partly cloudy when I arrived here & a bit hazy.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Breezy easy hike. Only the first 10 mins up the stairs is rather steep, apart from that there's a well constructed path for you to walk on, and the view is absolutely rewarding. It's also next to the famous Shilin night Market, so you can reward yourself with good food after the hike is done. Path says it'd take 100 mins both ways, but it can easily be done within an hour.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Even on a rainy Sunday, this was a great hike from Shilin and takes about a 1hour return trip commencing from a block away from the station. The climb was more intense than I expected but it’s paved the whole way and you’re rewarded not only with spectacular views but also lovely a lovely stroll through bamboo and alongside small vegetable patches

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is so gorgeous. Make sure you come here when the sky is clear. I started climbing from the entrance nearby Jiantan MRT station. It took me around 30 minutes to reach this place. The way to go up is not that difficult and surrounded by the trees. Once you reach up, spend some minutes there to see the airplane take off.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good place to hike and beautiful views from this lookout for TAIPEI 101, Mitsugoshi Building, Miramar Ferris Wheel, Songshan Airport, various bridges, and etc. Laodifang translates literally to “The Old Place” or better as “The Usual Place” where people commonly gather. I like the paper airplane statue and blue paper plane bench, a nice touch to the plane spotting that goes on from Songshan Airport. Getting here is intermediate climb and there are various starting areas. It tends to be windy so be prepared with proper jacket and clothing. Can be packed on weekends though as these trails are convenient for city dwellers. Even Tuesday morning had some 15-20 people here. Most move on quickly as part of their hike though.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great point to take a view about Taipei city. Also, it’s suitable for hiking for any generation. Highly recommend to visit in the morning, night tour could be a bit risky.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice observatory point on Taipei, Keelung river, SongShan Airport or Dajia Riverside Park. In fact, so much can be seen, that it can be a good idea to bring binoculars. It's not the only observatory deck on the trail but it's clearly the main one. It's also a very reasonable hike from Jiantan station, with roughly only 2 km walk, not being too steep, and the trail has very good maintenance.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a excellent place to over see Taipei valley with grand view in a clear day. You can even see a eagle flying in the sky. Come for a hiking and experience the beauty of Taipei city!
